This maps directly onto construction finance — one of the most underserved spaces for this kind of thinking. One controller handling job costing, WIP reporting, certified payroll, and cash flow across multiple projects simultaneously, on infrastructure that hasn't evolved in decades.
The Accounting Engineer is exactly what this space needs. Someone who knows which parts of the workflow require judgment and which parts are just friction that can be engineered away. In construction that distinction is everything.
What I'm building first: a more automated WIP reporting workflow that surfaces variances earlier, while there's still time to act on them.
This is so interesting, you have put a name to something I see a lot in my work with various firms. The nimble individuals, who are continually learning, delivering projects and solving problems are making themselves indispensable. I will borrow Accounting Engineer if that's ok.
Proud to be an accounting engineer! Have already been building some items over here in "CPA-land" in the regional firm world. AI data processing + audits = better audits!
Will do! Going to keep an eye on your page here for lots of great information. I write some notes and posts here and there about being on the "frontlines" of AI adoption at a CPA firm if you ever want to check out.
Do you have a video that shows how a user connects Claude to QuickBooks and how they go about it? Any best practices to make sure this goes smoothly and tests to make sure the connection is active and procedures to make sure unauthorized entries aren't made and etc.
Nick, I currently do not. But I could happily help you out with that. I have a friend, @Alex Altman, who has done exactly that. He’d also be a really good resource on this.
That's great I would love to connect with Alex. I feel like the ability to connect Claude and QuickBooks is the last mile. We have been using Claude to automate a lot but the ability to book entries and read QuickBooks will be a game changer
At Consark.ai, we call them FDAs - Forward Deployed Accountants.... they are professional accountants (or were so until 1-2 yrs back) who then took up building the systems in which they have all the functional expertise in...
Still figuring out how to survive my accounting career, nevermind accounting engineer career. Kind regards - Gene.
Thanks for tuning in, Gene. What are you doing to survive your accounting career right now?

I completely agree. That’s a super great perspective!
Would love to hear how it goes for you. Keep building.

It absolutely is. It’s been a game changer. Give Altman and follow and see the things he’s been up to — I think you’ll really enjoy it.

I like that name, Anand. Very cool!
